What is this class? This elective studio art course is designed to allow students to learn basic techniques and build on those for drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking, and paper making. I hope each student grows in their knowledge and appreciation of art.
Mixed Media 2 builds off the techniques and knowledge learned in Mixed Media 1. This allows students to learn more advanced techniques and introduce more challenging supplies. At the end of this course, students are challenged to design their own project and rubric. This showcases students' understanding of how art is made and what is needed to create quality art. |
How am I graded?
Each student's grade is averaged from Sketch Weeklies, Brainstorming/ MM, Tests/Quizzes, and Projects.
- Sketch Weekly-Each week students will have a Sketch Weekly they work on during the first 5 minutes of each class prior to instruction. These are due Friday. Specifics on what I am looking for in each sketch will be discussed in class.
- Brainstorming-Prior to starting each project students sketch out ideas and refine work. They must show their ideas to me and discuss their plan before receiving final draft materials.
- Master Mondays- Students are introduced to a famous artist and one of their pieces. We will describe, contemplate/compare, learn about the artist and reflect on the artwork.
- Tests and quizzes- These cover art vocabulary and techniques learned for each unit.
- Projects- These are graded using a rubric specific to each project. The main components stay the same but the specific details change depending on the materials. The components are effort, craftsmanship, composition and originality.
